Selenium Compounds
Selenium is a naturally occurring substance that is toxic at high concentrations but is also a nutritionally essential element. Hydrogen selenide is the most acutely toxic selenium compound. Acute (short-term) exposure to elemental selenium, hydrogen selenide, and selenium dioxide by inhalation results primarily in respiratory effects, such as irritation of the mucous membranes, pulmonary edema...
متن کاملDual functional selenium-substituted hydroxyapatite.
Hydroxyapatite (HA) doped with trace elements has attracted much attention recently owing to its excellent biological functions. Herein, we use a facile co-precipitation method to incorporate selenium into HA by adding sodium selenite during synthesis. The obtained selenium-substituted HA products are needle-like nanoparticles which have size and crystallinity that are similar to those of the ...
متن کاملOxidation of naphthenoaromatic and methyl-substituted aromatic compounds by naphthalene 1,2-dioxygenase.
Oxidation of acenaphthene, acenaphthylene, and fluorene was examined with recombinant strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1(pRE695) expressing naphthalene dioxygenase genes cloned from plasmid NAH7. Acenaphthene underwent monooxygenation to 1-acenaphthenol with subsequent conversion to 1-acenaphthenone and cis- and trans-acenaphthene-1,2-diols, while acenaphthylene was dioxygenated to give cis-ace...
متن کاملAromatic vs aliphatic C-H cleavage of alkyl-substituted pyridines by (PNPiPr)Re compounds.
Both (PNP)Re(H)(4) and (PNP)ReH(cyclooctyne) (PNP(i)(Pr) = ((i)Pr(2)PCH(2)SiMe(2))(2)N) react with alkylpyridines NC(5)H(4)R to give first (PNP)ReH(2)(eta(2)-pyridyl) and cyclooctene and then, when not sterically blocked, (PNP)Re(eta(2)-pyridyl)(2) and cyclooctane. The latter are shown by NMR, X-ray diffraction, and DFT calculations to have several energetically competitive isomeric structures ...
متن کاملSelenium compounds for fish health: An update
Oxidative stress has become an important subject for terrestrial and aquatic toxicology. The trace element selenium has been demonstrated in chemo-prevention and drug-resistance through reduction of oxidative stress. Selenium compounds could prevent damage to the unsaturated fatty acid of subcellular membranes by lipid peroxidation induced by free radicals in fish.
